El Paso, TX – Strong winds and blowing dust are expected to impact portions of southern New Mexico and western Texas throughout Tuesday, with gusts reaching up to 70 mph in some areas.
According to the National Weather Service in El Paso, a High Wind Warning remains in effect until 9 p.m. MDT for areas including the Sacramento Mountains, Southern Gila Region, and the El Paso-Las Cruces region. West winds between 35 and 45 mph, with gusts up to 70 mph, could cause significant damage, including downed trees and power lines, leading to widespread power outages. High-profile vehicles may experience hazardous travel conditions due to strong crosswinds.
In addition to the high winds, a Blowing Dust Advisory is in place for portions of south-central and southwestern New Mexico, as well as western Texas. Visibility may drop to one-quarter mile or less at times, posing a significant risk for drivers. Officials urge residents with respiratory issues to remain indoors and avoid exposure to dust and debris.
Authorities advise staying in lower levels of buildings, securing outdoor objects, and postponing travel if possible. If driving through dust storms, motorists should pull aside and turn off their lights to prevent accidents.
For updated alerts and road conditions, residents should monitor local news and official weather sources.
