Pueblo, CO – A high wind warning remains in effect for much of southeastern Colorado, with gusts expected to reach up to 90 mph in some areas through Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Pueblo.

The warning covers multiple regions, including El Paso, Pueblo, Bent, Prowers, Baca, Kiowa, Crowley, and Las Animas counties, as well as the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. According to the NWS, the strongest winds will be felt in the mountains and the southern I-25 corridor, with sustained winds of 30 to 50 mph and gusts reaching 65 to 90 mph.

The warning is in effect for different areas at various times. Winds will peak in the San Luis Valley and I-25 corridor from Pueblo to the New Mexico border between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday. Meanwhile, El Paso County, including Colorado Springs and Peterson Space Force Base, will experience high winds from 7 p.m. Tuesday through noon Wednesday. The Sangre de Cristo Mountains will see the strongest winds, with gusts reaching up to 90 mph Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Residents are advised to take precautions as damaging winds may cause power outages, fallen trees, and hazardous travel conditions, particularly for high-profile vehicles. Authorities recommend staying indoors, avoiding windows, and securing loose outdoor objects. Drivers on north-south highways should exercise caution due to strong crosswinds.
