Albuquerque, NM – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Albuquerque has issued a High Wind Warning for several regions of northern and central New Mexico, effective from 2 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday. Forecasters warn of west winds between 25 and 40 mph, with gusts up to 60 mph expected.

The warning covers the Northern and Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains, East Slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, the Central Highlands, and Guadalupe County.

According to the NWS, damaging winds could down trees and power lines, leading to scattered power outages. Travel may be especially hazardous for high-profile vehicles, including trucks and trailers, along east–west routes and mountain passes.

Forecasters urge residents to secure outdoor items, such as patio furniture and trash bins, and to use extra caution while driving. The strongest gusts are expected during the late morning and early afternoon hours Monday before easing into the evening.

The NWS reminds the public that wind speeds of this magnitude can cause property damage and create dangerous crosswinds on open highways.
