Deming, NM – New Mexico State Police used advanced license plate technology to locate five kidnapped children and arrest their mother.
Officers received information Thursday about a black Saab with Texas plates, linked to five missing children from Texas. Authorities issued a “be on the lookout” alert for the vehicle.
Officers located the car at a travel center in Lordsburg. Police identified the mother, Qwaunice Tippitt, 31, and arrested her on kidnapping charges. Charles Jones, 32, was also arrested at the scene for alleged involvement.
The children were safely taken into protective custody by Texas Child Protective Services after being returned to the Lordsburg State Police office.
The arrests stemmed from charges issued by the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office in Texas. Authorities credit the Automatic License Plate Recognition system with helping officers swiftly locate the suspects.
