Deming, NM – New Mexico State Police (NMSP) are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred early Saturday involving the Deming Police Department (DPD).
Around 4:30 a.m., a DPD officer attempted to stop a vehicle driven by 32-year-old Kassandra Castro for careless driving. Castro fled, leading to a pursuit that ended when her vehicle became stuck in a field off Highway 11. As the officer approached, Castro allegedly drove toward the officer, prompting the officer to fire at least one shot. Castro was not hit and surrendered.
According to NMSP, the incident is under investigation.
