Albuquerque, N.M. – Thunderstorms with the potential for damaging winds and hail could develop across eastern New Mexico this afternoon, putting cities like Tucumcari and Clovis at risk through 8 p.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, a marginal risk of severe storms is in effect for the eastern plains, where scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to form between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. Hail and isolated damaging wind gusts are the main concerns, though the tornado threat remains low.
Tucumcari, Clovis, and Santa Rosa may experience fast-moving cells capable of producing brief downpours and small hail. Motorists traveling along I-40 should remain alert for sudden changes in visibility and slippery road conditions. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and have multiple ways to receive weather warnings.
Temperatures will climb into the 70s and low 80s across the region, with Roswell reaching 81°F, increasing instability ahead of the storms. Gusty east winds are expected to develop Thursday night into Friday, particularly affecting the Albuquerque and Santa Fe areas.
Storm chances continue later this week, with stronger activity possible by Friday. Stay tuned for updates and any new advisories that may be issued.
