Albuquerque, NM – New Mexico is bracing for a significant heatwave, with temperatures expected to remain high throughout the week. Sunday afternoon temperatures are forecast to hit 95 degrees in Albuquerque and similar highs across the state.

According to the US National Weather Service in Albuquerque, the heat risk will intensify starting Monday, with many areas experiencing temperatures in the high 90s and low 100s. Cities like Clayton and Tucumcari are forecasted to reach as high as 100 to 103 degrees. Santa Fe will see temperatures around 91 to 97 degrees, and Roswell will experience highs up to 101 degrees.

This extreme heat poses serious health risks, particularly for those without adequate cooling or hydration. The National Weather Service has issued a heat risk warning, advising residents to stay indoors during peak hours, drink plenty of water, and avoid strenuous activities.

In addition to the heat, precipitation chances are low for most of the week, exacerbating dry conditions. The forecast shows slight chances of rain by Thursday and Friday, with a 20-30% chance in Albuquerque and surrounding areas.

The high temperatures are expected to persist into next weekend, with Albuquerque seeing highs around 94 to 97 degrees. This prolonged heatwave is unusual for the region and highlights the importance of taking safety precautions.
