Newark, New Jersey – Roads across northern New Jersey, the lower Hudson Valley and northern Connecticut could turn snow-covered by sunrise Sunday as a long-duration winter storm delivers up to 15 inches of accumulation and wind gusts reaching 45 mph.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, a Winter Storm Warning takes effect at 6 a.m. Sunday and continues through 6 p.m. Monday. Snow will spread in during the morning and afternoon hours Sunday, with the strongest winds expected Sunday night into Monday. Total snowfall of 11 to 15 inches is forecast across northeastern New Jersey, Rockland and northern Westchester counties in New York, and northern Fairfield, New Haven, Middlesex and New London counties in Connecticut.

Major corridors including I-80, I-287, the Garden State Parkway, I-95 and the New York State Thruway could see rapid accumulation and periods of blowing snow. Communities such as Paterson, Hackensack, Newark, Stamford and White Plains should prepare for reduced visibility and difficult travel, especially during the Monday morning and evening commutes.

Wind gusts near 45 mph combined with heavy snow may down tree limbs and power lines, causing scattered outages. Officials urge residents to delay non-essential travel, winterize vehicles and keep emergency supplies on hand.

Snow and strong winds will persist into Monday evening before gradually tapering, though icy roads may linger beyond the warning period.
