Toms River, N.J. – Residents across Ocean County are bracing for dangerous conditions as a severe thunderstorm warning remains active until 6 p.m. Saturday, bringing threats of damaging winds and small hail.

According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, gusts could reach up to 60 mph, with pea-sized hail possible across Toms River, Beachwood, Crestwood Village, Forked River, and Seaside Heights. The warning covers an area with over 109,000 people, 23 schools, and two hospitals, heightening the urgency for caution.

Toms River, Beachwood, and Crestwood Village are expected to experience the brunt of the storm by early evening. Motorists are urged to avoid travel on Route 9 and the Garden State Parkway, where sudden wind gusts could create hazardous conditions. Beachgoers in Seaside Heights should immediately seek sturdy shelter as lightning and strong winds move through.

Residents should secure outdoor objects, charge electronic devices, and prepare for potential power outages. With hail possible, parking vehicles under cover is also recommended.

The severe thunderstorm warning is set to expire by 6 p.m., but additional advisories could be issued if the storm line strengthens or slows.
