Harrisburg, Pa. – Dry skies across the Mid-Atlantic will give way to soaking rain by Friday night, with northern Pennsylvania and southern New York bracing for the heaviest downpours.

According to the National Weather Service’s Middle Atlantic River Forecast Center, a cold front is expected to push into the region Friday afternoon, ending a brief stretch of calm weather. Rainfall totals could exceed half an inch in areas along the New York–Pennsylvania border by early Saturday morning.

Communities from Binghamton, N.Y., to Scranton, Pa., should prepare for slick roads and possible ponding in low-lying areas. While the system won’t bring extreme totals, wet roadways during peak evening and morning commutes could lead to travel delays. Drivers are encouraged to allow extra time and reduce speed in areas with poor drainage.

The rainfall will be the most significant precipitation in the area since early April, and while flooding isn’t expected, stream and river levels may rise slightly. Residents near creeks and rivers should remain alert.

Rain is expected to taper off Saturday afternoon, but additional systems could follow into next week. Updates will be issued as needed.
