Allentown, PA – Residents across parts of New Jersey and eastern Pennsylvania are being urged to prepare for dangerous cold conditions early Tuesday as the National Weather Service issues a Cold Weather Advisory for multiple counties in both states.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, the advisory will be in effect from 2 a.m. to 10 a.m. EST Tuesday, with very cold wind chills ranging from 5 to 12 degrees below zero expected during the coldest overnight and early-morning hours.
Impacted areas include Warren County in New Jersey, along with Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania. Cities and communities such as Allentown, Reading, Bethlehem, Easton, Stroudsburg, Jim Thorpe, Trenton, New Brunswick, Doylestown, Somerville, Pottstown, and Freehold fall within the advisory zone.
Meteorologists warn that prolonged exposure to these conditions can lead to hypothermia, particularly for anyone outdoors without proper protection. The cold will be most noticeable for early commuters, outdoor workers, and students waiting for school transportation.
Health and emergency officials recommend residents dress in layers, wear hats and gloves, and limit time outdoors whenever possible. Drivers are also urged to keep emergency supplies in their vehicles and allow extra time during the morning commute.
While temperatures are expected to gradually improve later Tuesday morning, officials stress that the pre-dawn hours pose the greatest risk.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and heed all weather advisories as this burst of Arctic air moves through the region.
