New York, NY – Temperatures across the New York City metro are climbing into the upper 80s Friday, with possible afternoon thunderstorms threatening areas north and west of the city.

According to the National Weather Service in New York, scattered showers and thunderstorms may develop after 2 p.m. for parts of New Jersey, the Hudson Valley, and southern Connecticut. The strongest storms could bring gusty winds and heavy downpours, particularly in areas like Paramus, Morristown, and Middletown. The risk is lower for areas east of NYC, including Long Island and southeastern Connecticut.

New York City is expected to top out around 87°F, with nearby highs of 88°F in Newark, New Brunswick, and Trenton. Hartford and Poughkeepsie will also see mid-80s, while cooler readings in the 70s are forecast near the coast, including Montauk and Stony Brook.

Drivers should watch for slick roads and low visibility during any downpours. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and avoid parking beneath trees due to wind risk. With elevated heat and humidity, hydration and limited outdoor activity are advised, especially for sensitive groups.

More updates could follow if storm warnings are issued later this afternoon.
