Atlantic City, N.J. – Boaters navigating New Jersey’s coastal waters should expect hazardous conditions this morning as dense fog blankets the shoreline from Sandy Hook to Cape May, cutting visibility to 1/4 nautical mile or less.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until noon Friday for nearshore waters up to 20 nautical miles out. Affected zones include areas off Manasquan Inlet, Little Egg Inlet, Great Egg Inlet, and the waters surrounding Cape May.
The thick fog poses significant risks to navigation, especially for small craft and early-morning commercial vessels. Mariners are advised to use radar and compass tools, activate all navigation lights, and signal properly when underway.
Visibility could drop rapidly and unpredictably, particularly near inlets and harbors. Use extreme caution if travel is necessary and avoid unfamiliar routes.
The advisory is expected to expire by midday as winds shift and visibility improves. Mariners should monitor for updates in case conditions persist or warnings are extended.
