Portsmouth, NH – A Maine truck driver was injured Thursday morning in a rollover crash that temporarily shut down a major on-ramp to Interstate 95 in Portsmouth.
According to the New Hampshire State Police, the crash occurred around 7:58 a.m. on Thursday when a tractor-trailer driven by 54-year-old Dean A. Merritt of Old Orchard Beach, Maine, overturned on the northbound I-95 on-ramp from the Portsmouth Traffic Circle. Merritt was reportedly driving a 2014 Peterbilt 388 hauling a 2003 Heil Trailer filled with concrete mixing dust when he failed to navigate a curve. The truck and trailer crossed the shoulder and overturned.
Troopers on the scene assisted Merritt from the vehicle and transported him to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries. He was cited for negligent driving.
Emergency personnel and law enforcement closed the on-ramp for roughly four hours while clearing the scene and removing the vehicle. Traffic resumed at approximately 12:03 p.m.
Troopers from Troop A and G were supported at the scene by the Portsmouth Police Department, Portsmouth Fire Department, New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services, and the New Hampshire Department of Transportation.
Officials noted the investigation remains ongoing.
