Manchester, N.H. – Triple-digit heat index values are set to blanket southern New Hampshire on Tuesday, with an Extreme Heat Warning in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the National Weather Service.

Dangerous heat and humidity will push “feels like” temperatures to 107°F across Merrimack, Hillsborough, Sullivan, and Cheshire counties. Cities including Manchester, Nashua, and Keene will face elevated health risks. Residents are urged to stay indoors, limit exertion, and avoid travel on major highways like Interstate 93 and Route 3, where car breakdowns in extreme heat pose added dangers.

According to the NWS office in Gray, Maine, the heat advisory applies to a wide swath of southern and central New Hampshire, including Concord, Claremont, and Jaffrey. Heat-related illness is likely during this window, especially for vulnerable groups like children, seniors, and outdoor workers.

Avoid leaving pets or people in parked vehicles. Interior temps can soar past 140°F in minutes.

Stay in air-conditioned spaces, check on neighbors, and remain hydrated. Even short exposure outdoors could lead to heat exhaustion.

More mild temperatures and rain chances return midweek, offering a break after Tuesday’s high of 100°F in Manchester.
