Portland, ME – A fast-moving winter storm is forecast to blanket Maine and New Hampshire with heavy snow beginning Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snowfall is expected to start Sunday afternoon, intensify through the evening, and taper off Monday morning. Projections suggest southern Maine and central New Hampshire could see accumulations exceeding 6 inches. Coastal Downeast Maine may receive up to 9 inches with localized snowfall rates reaching 2 inches per hour in heavier bands.
Blowing snow, with gusts up to 35 mph in some areas, could severely limit visibility, creating hazardous travel conditions. The Monday morning commute is likely to be impacted by snow-covered roads.
The NWS advises residents to monitor forecasts and prepare for possible disruptions. Those traveling should ensure vehicles are winter-ready and allow extra travel time.
The Winter Storm Watch currently covers south-central Maine, Downeast areas, and New Hampshire, including Portsmouth and Concord.
Residents are urged to stay informed about updates as conditions may change rapidly.
