Boston, Massachusetts – Much of the Northeast will bake under rising heat Thursday, with cities from Boston to Albany and Hartford facing temperatures in the low 90s alongside growing heat-health concerns for sensitive groups.

According to the National Weather Service and its experimental HeatRisk tool, moderate-level heat impacts (level 2 of 4) are expected across eastern Massachusetts, Connecticut, southern New Hampshire, and parts of New York, including the Hudson Valley. The risk is especially elevated for individuals without access to cooling or hydration—such as outdoor workers, elderly residents, and those in urban centers.

The most intense heat is forecast for Thursday afternoon, when temperatures may peak between 89°F and 93°F, compounded by moderate humidity levels. While not record-breaking, the conditions could strain local health systems and trigger heat-related illness in vulnerable populations.

In Boston, Springfield, and Worcester, residents are urged to limit outdoor activity between noon and 5 p.m., stay hydrated, and use air conditioning or visit cooling centers where available. Cities like Albany and Providence also fall under the “moderate” risk level, per the CDC-backed index.

The heat will subside slightly by Friday, but updates are expected daily as the index evolves.
