New Castle, IN – Indiana Trooper Recovers Stolen SUV on I-70, Arrests Suspect

A state trooper recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested a suspect early Tuesday on Interstate 70 near New Castle.

Trooper Avery Weisbrodt was patrolling Henry County around 2:30 a.m. when he spotted the stolen SUV near the 123-mile marker.

The 2022 Toyota Highlander was reported stolen in New York two days earlier. It was last seen heading westbound near the 142-mile marker. After confirming the theft, Weisbrodt stopped the vehicle and arrested the driver.

The suspect, Olalekan Stanley Olawoye, 27, of Indianapolis, faces charges of auto theft, a Level 6 felony, and unauthorized vehicle entry, a Class B misdemeanor.

Weisbrodt transported Olawoye to the Henry County Jail without incident.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
