Fredericton, NB – Snowfall and plunging temperatures are creating hazardous conditions across Fredericton, with up to 4 cm of snow expected to accumulate by Thursday afternoon and wind chills dipping as low as -11°C overnight into Friday.
According to Environment Canada, light snow began falling early Thursday and will transition to flurries and rain showers by afternoon. Winds out of the northwest at 28 km/h are contributing to poor visibility and icy conditions. A 60 percent chance of rain showers will persist into Thursday evening, with temperatures holding around 0°C before falling to -7°C overnight.
Friday’s forecast includes a mix of sun and cloud in the morning, followed by another 60 percent chance of rain showers in the afternoon. Winds are expected to shift northwest at 20 km/h, with daytime highs reaching 6°C, but wind chills could again make it feel much colder, especially in the early morning and late evening.
Drivers are urged to use caution on slick roads and reduce speeds, particularly during the Thursday morning and Friday afternoon commutes. Residents should also dress in layers and monitor for changing conditions. No official weather alerts are currently in effect, but updates may be issued if conditions worsen.
