Lake Tahoe, NV – Winter weather conditions are bringing hazardous snow and intense winds to Northern Nevada today, impacting travel and safety for commuters. A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the Lake Tahoe region and surrounding counties until 10 PM tonight, with snowfall and gusty winds creating hazardous conditions across the area.

According to the National Weather Service, areas including Lassen, Plumas, and Sierra counties could see up to 12 inches of snow, particularly west of US-395. Winds may gust up to 50 MPH in valleys, creating blowing snow and reduced visibility. Higher elevations, especially the Western and Eastern Lake Tahoe areas, are expected to face even stronger wind gusts reaching up to 100 MPH along ridges.

Commuters are urged to take caution on roads, as snow accumulation and wind may create slick conditions and drifting snow. US-395 and other mountain roadways are particularly at risk, and drivers should prepare for delays or chain controls. Morning and evening travel hours are likely to be the most challenging, with visibility reduced in blowing snow.

Looking ahead to the week, calmer weather is expected by Tuesday with mostly sunny skies and high temperatures near 50 degrees. However, another slight chance of rain and snow showers may return by the weekend. Residents should stay updated on weather alerts, especially those traveling through mountain passes.

Travelers are encouraged to check road conditions and advisories before heading out and prepare for winter weather delays. Local officials recommend keeping an emergency kit with blankets, food, water, and a flashlight in vehicles.
