Elko, NV – A powerful winter storm is set to impact northern Nevada starting Wednesday morning, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds through late Thursday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Elko, a Winter Storm Watch is in effect for the Ruby Mountains, East Humboldt Range, and Northern Elko County. Forecasters predict total snow accumulations of 15 to 30 inches in higher elevations, with wind gusts reaching up to 50 mph on exposed ridgetops. Lower elevations, including areas like Jarbidge, Tuscarora, and Mountain City, could see between 5 to 8 inches of snow, with locally higher amounts over summits and passes.

The storm is expected to make travel hazardous, particularly during the Thursday morning commute. Road conditions may become treacherous, with reduced visibility and potential road closures. Additionally, gusty winds could bring down tree branches, increasing the risk of power outages.

Residents and travelers are urged to monitor weather updates and prepare for difficult conditions. Those in affected areas should consider delaying travel or using extreme caution if travel is necessary.
