High winds are set to sweep through southern Nevada starting Sunday, with gusts expected to reach between 40 to 50 mph. Residents and travelers along I-15 and U.S. Route 95 are urged to prepare for potentially hazardous conditions. The National Weather Service warns that these winds could make driving challenging, especially for high-profile vehicles, and create dangerous conditions on area lakes for boaters.
According to the National Weather Service in Las Vegas, the wind advisory will take effect Sunday morning and extend through Monday afternoon, affecting regions including Las Vegas, Pahrump, and surrounding communities. North winds will initially build up to 18-20 mph Sunday night, with gusts peaking at around 50 mph. Conditions are expected to persist through Monday, decreasing slightly to gusts of about 30 mph in the afternoon.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and holiday decorations, as gusty conditions could easily displace unsecured objects. Homeowners should also ensure that any seasonal inflatables are safely stored to prevent damage or safety risks.
In addition to the wind advisory, the National Weather Service projects mostly sunny skies and mild temperatures, with highs near 68°F on Sunday and 67°F on Monday. Winds will taper off on Tuesday, bringing calmer conditions with mostly sunny weather and a high of 69°F. Temperatures are expected to remain consistent through mid-week, with clear nights in the low-to-mid 40s.
This wind event marks an early seasonal shift and serves as a reminder to southern Nevada residents and visitors to stay weather-aware as winter approaches. Travelers should check for road updates before heading out and exercise caution on local highways.
