A Beach Hazards Statement has been issued for California’s Pacific Coast, warning beachgoers of dangerous surf conditions through 7 p.m. Monday. The National Weather Service (NWS) advises that waves reaching heights of 10 to 14 feet are expected, impacting most coastal areas except for the Santa Cruz coast. Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant, avoid entering the water, and heed safety precautions due to the risk of sudden, powerful waves.

According to the NWS San Francisco Bay Area Office, the advisory begins Sunday at 3 p.m. and will remain active through Monday evening. Beach conditions are expected to be unpredictable, with strong currents and high surf presenting hazardous swimming and beachcombing conditions. Residents and visitors are strongly advised to keep a safe distance from the shoreline and avoid turning their backs on the ocean.

In addition to beach safety, weather in the greater San Francisco area will bring mild temperatures with mostly sunny skies over the weekend. Sunday’s forecast calls for clear skies with a high near 71°F, accompanied by northwest winds at 15-20 mph and gusts reaching up to 29 mph. Monday will remain sunny, reaching a high of around 70°F, with gentle north winds providing some relief from the otherwise volatile beach conditions.

As the week progresses, temperatures are expected to moderate, with highs in the upper 60s by Tuesday under mostly sunny skies. Calm and clear weather should persist through midweek, creating ideal conditions inland while coastal areas face continued beach hazards.

Local authorities are urging all residents and tourists to stay informed and practice caution at the coast. Keep pets leashed near water, avoid risky rock formations, and always respect beach hazard signs to ensure a safe experience.
