Las Vegas, Nevada – Las Vegas just wrapped up its wettest May on record, with 1.44 inches of rain falling during the month — nearly 20 times the city’s usual average. The record-setting total came largely from early-month storms that drenched the valley and caused scattered power outages and traffic delays.

According to the National Weather Service Las Vegas, the city typically averages just 0.07 inches of rain in May. This year’s total of 1.44 inches breaks the previous record and marks a rare wet spell for a region better known for bone-dry springs.

While rain took center stage, temperatures were also extreme. The mercury soared to 105°F on May 31 — the hottest reading of the month — while the lowest temperature, 56°F, was recorded on May 7. The average temperature for May ended at 78.9°F, running 1.6 degrees above normal.

Residents reported brief flooding along sections of Charleston Boulevard and US-95 during the heaviest rain days. Drivers are reminded to avoid flooded roadways and stay updated through local alerts during monsoon-prone months ahead.

More weather updates are expected as summer heat builds across Clark County.
