State College, Pa. – Gardeners and farmers in northern Pennsylvania should prepare for a surprise chill as temperatures dip to near freezing between 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday, threatening sensitive vegetation with overnight frost.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, a Frost Advisory remains in effect for Cameron, Clearfield, Elk, McKean, Potter, Tioga, and Warren Counties, where lows could fall to 35°F. Early morning frost may form on exposed surfaces, posing a risk to plants left uncovered.

Communities including Coudersport, St. Marys, Emporium, DuBois, Wellsboro, and Warren could wake up to a thin frost coating lawns and gardens. Residents are urged to bring potted plants indoors or cover vulnerable crops with cloth or frost blankets.

While June frosts are uncommon, high-pressure systems and clear skies can trigger rapid overnight cooling in the northern tier. This advisory follows a similar late-spring cold snap in 2021 that damaged early vegetable plantings across the region.

Temperatures will rebound Monday afternoon, but another advisory is possible if cold conditions persist. The NWS recommends monitoring local forecasts for updates.
