Nevada’s high desert greets the morning with a sharp chill, 38 degrees in Reno, and pale sunlight stretching across quiet neighborhoods after 9 a.m. Pavement along I-80 is dry for now, but a quick pattern shift is on the way.

According to the National Weather Service in Reno, sunshine pushes highs to near 63 degrees today with light southeast winds at 5 to 10 mph. Clouds increase tonight as temperatures dip into the mid-30s.

By Wednesday, a 30 percent chance of rain develops between late morning and midafternoon. Highs cool slightly to near 57 degrees. Winds strengthen from the west at 15 to 25 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph. Snow levels hover near 6,300 feet, keeping valley floors mainly rain but bringing light snow to higher Sierra passes.

A slight chance of rain and snow lingers Wednesday night as lows fall near 28 degrees. That colder air may create brief slick spots early Thursday where moisture remains. Watch bridges and shaded ramps for isolated refreezing.

Sunshine returns Thursday with highs near 49, then rebounds to the low 50s Friday. The weekend turns warmer and brighter, reaching 58 Saturday and 67 Sunday.

Clocks spring ahead at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 8. Longer daylight pairs with a warming trend into early next week, when highs approach 70 by Monday.
