Reno, Nevada – Warm, dry days continue across northern Nevada this week, but drivers along I-580 through Reno should brace for breezy conditions by Thursday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, calm and sunny weather will dominate Tuesday and Wednesday with highs reaching 79°F and 82°F, respectively. But Thursday brings a shift. Southwest winds will increase to 15–20 mph, with gusts near 30 mph possible by late afternoon. Travelers, especially high-profile vehicles, should use caution on exposed roadways like I-580 and U.S. 395.
Wednesday night will remain mostly clear with a low around 51°F. Thursday starts sunny and warm, with a high near 78°F, but gusty winds could pose safety issues for afternoon commuters. By Thursday night, temperatures drop to the mid-40s, offering some relief before the next warm-up.
Looking ahead, Reno heads into a classic early summer stretch. Friday stays clear with a high of 75°F, while Saturday and Sunday climb into the 80s again under sunny skies. Memorial Day, Monday, will be mostly sunny with a high near 82°F — perfect for outdoor plans, though winds may return later in the day.
No rain is in sight, but fire danger remains a concern due to the dry air and increasing winds later this week. Residents should avoid outdoor burning and secure loose outdoor items ahead of Thursday’s gusts.
Weather alerts may follow if wind speeds trend higher. Stay updated through the NWS Reno office.
