LAS VEGAS — The Nevada Department of Employment, Training, and Rehabilitation will implement an increase to the unemployment insurance taxable wage base in 2026.

While there aren’t many big changes to unemployment benefits in 2026, Nevada’s unemployment insurance (UI) taxable wage base will increase from $41,800 in 2025 to $43,700 in 2026. Seasonal layoffs in January are expected to lead more workers to seek unemployment benefits.

To claim unemployment benefits through DETR, applicants must be unemployed through no fault of their own and complete weekly certifications to confirm they are actively seeking employment. Applicants seeking a claim for the new benefit year will also need to have earned an income that is three times the weekly benefit amount received in a previous claim.

Since the launch of its cloud-based online system in mid-2025, DETR now has useful features like the Track Work Searches Online, which automatically prepopulates on the applicant’s certification screen. These features help streamline the process and prevent errors.  The EmployNV Hubs offer services such as job search workshops and vocational counseling to support job seekers.

The modernized portal allows applicants to view claim and payment processing in real time. In 2026, DETR users can expect improved user experience and updated data protection.
