Omaha, NE – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for portions of Nebraska and Iowa as snowfall continues through Tuesday, affecting morning and evening commutes.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, snow accumulations up to two additional inches are expected in areas including Omaha, Lincoln, Council Bluffs, and Norfolk, creating slick road conditions. Some regions, such as Burt and Cuming counties, have already reported nearly three inches of snow. The advisory extends through 6 p.m. Tuesday for counties in southeast Nebraska, including Gage, Jefferson, Pawnee, and Richardson.
Residents should anticipate slow travel conditions, particularly on untreated roads and bridges. Authorities urge drivers to reduce speeds and allow extra time for commutes. Those traveling through affected areas can check road conditions by calling 511.
The snowfall is expected to taper off by Tuesday evening, but temperatures will remain below freezing, potentially leading to lingering icy patches. Officials advise keeping emergency supplies in vehicles, such as blankets and flashlights, in case of delays.
