Nebraska braces for icy conditions as winter weather advisory remains in effect. Drivers in south-central Nebraska should prepare for slick roads and freezing rain today and into Saturday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Hastings, a winter weather advisory is active from 2 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. Saturday. Ice accumulations are expected to range from a light glaze to up to 0.1 inches, particularly east of Highway 281. Winds up to 15 mph could exacerbate already hazardous conditions, making travel risky through the evening and early Saturday.
Residents are urged to limit travel where possible, especially during the Friday evening commute. The NWS recommends using extreme caution on roadways, sidewalks, and driveways, as icy surfaces significantly increase the risk of accidents.
Five-Day Forecast:
• Friday Night: A chance of freezing rain before 11 p.m., followed by light snow. Temperatures will dip to 25°F with patchy fog.
• Saturday: Partly cloudy skies and a high of 39°F. Morning travelers should remain cautious due to residual ice.
• Sunday: Mostly sunny with a high of 49°F, offering a brief reprieve from wintry conditions.
• Monday: Sunny and mild with a high near 48°F, followed by a clear and cool night.
• Tuesday: Partly sunny skies return, with temperatures peaking near 46°F.
The weekend will see improving conditions after Saturday morning, but caution is urged until ice has melted. Stay updated on local weather reports and prepare for potential delays.
