Omaha, NE – A series of potentially strong storms is expected to move across Nebraska starting Thursday evening, with risks continuing through Saturday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, NE, thunderstorms may begin developing as early as 7 p.m. Thursday, March 27, especially across southeast Nebraska and southwest Iowa. These storms could bring up to 1-inch hail and wind gusts reaching 60 mph. While tornadoes and flooding are unlikely, some storms may still turn severe.

Storm chances increase again Friday night, with the highest threat between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m. Scattered thunderstorms may develop across central and eastern Nebraska, including Omaha, Lincoln, Norfolk, and Grand Island. Severe weather remains a low but possible risk.

Saturday’s outlook includes continued storm potential through 9 p.m., though confidence remains uncertain due to possible atmospheric capping. Areas along the Nebraska-Iowa border, such as Council Bluffs and Plattsmouth, may experience more active weather during the afternoon and evening.

Residents with outdoor plans are advised to stay weather-aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings. While the overall threat level remains low, conditions may change rapidly across the weekend. Monitor local forecasts closely for updates.
