Omaha, NE – Nebraska residents should prepare for potentially severe weather today. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Omaha has issued an alert, indicating a 40-80% chance of thunderstorms across the state this afternoon, with the highest risk period between 1 p.m. and midnight. The area most likely to experience severe weather stretches from Yankton to Columbus.

According to the NWS, there is a 5-10% chance of severe storms, which may include quarter-sized hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph. Tornadoes are not expected, but localized heavy rains could lead to flooding in some areas.

The forecast for Omaha shows partly cloudy conditions from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with clouds increasing throughout the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to reach a high of 85°F with a 35% chance of rain. The air quality index is rated as good, standing at 42.

Looking ahead, the weekend brings a higher likelihood of rain. Saturday has a 75% chance of precipitation and cooler temperatures, with a high of 73°F. Sunday remains unsettled with a 35% chance of showers and a high of 79°F. The weather should clear up early next week, with sunny skies and temperatures ranging from 82°F to 86°F Monday through Thursday.
