Hastings, Nebraska – Drivers and residents south of I-80 may encounter a stray thunderstorm or two Thursday afternoon, but the rest of Nebraska is in for a warm and quiet stretch heading into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, there’s a 15–25% chance of isolated storms today, mainly concentrated in southern areas. High temperatures will range from the mid-70s to around 80 degrees, with overnight lows dipping into the upper 40s. Conditions will clear quickly by evening, setting the stage for mostly sunny skies and steady warming through Sunday.

Friday and Saturday will bring ideal spring weather across central and southern Nebraska, with sunny conditions and daytime highs climbing into the low to upper 80s. Cities including Grand Island, Kearney, and York can expect calm winds and clear nights, ideal for outdoor plans.

By Sunday, southerly winds will strengthen across the region. Gusts could reach 20 to 35 mph in areas such as Hastings, Holdrege, and Superior, potentially affecting high-profile vehicles on east-west routes like U.S. 6 and Highway 34. Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and prepare for breezier conditions.

The threat of storms remains low through the weekend, but updates will follow if conditions shift. Gusty winds are expected to peak late Sunday afternoon.
