Hastings, NE – A winter weather system will bring rain, snow, and gusty winds to the Hastings area starting today, affecting holiday travel and outdoor celebrations. Temperatures will drop significantly by Tuesday night, leading to icy roads and challenging conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected this morning, transitioning to snow overnight. Wind gusts could reach up to 50 mph in the Tri-Cities area, making driving hazardous, particularly on major routes such as Highway 281. Snow accumulation is forecast to be light, around half an inch, but icy patches are likely as lows dip to the teens.

Tuesday will bring partly sunny skies with highs in the low 30s, but strong northwest winds will continue, keeping wind chills bitterly cold. New Year’s Day offers some relief with sunshine and a high near 38 degrees. However, nighttime lows will remain in the teens, emphasizing the need for warm layers and cautious travel.

Looking ahead, Thursday and Friday will feature partly sunny skies with highs near 32 and 28 degrees, respectively. By the weekend, temperatures will drop further, with lows nearing single digits.

Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, dress warmly, and prepare for potential travel delays. For the latest updates and advisories, monitor local weather reports and road conditions.
