Hastings, Nebraska – Strong to severe thunderstorms could disrupt parts of Nebraska tonight, bringing damaging wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain as a cold front sweeps across the state.

According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, highs today will reach the upper 80s to low 90s, but a powerful cold front moving in from the northwest will trigger storms late this evening into the overnight hours. Winds will gust up to 35 mph, especially in central and southern areas like Kearney, Hastings, and Grand Island.

The threat extends through Tuesday morning, with widespread showers and embedded thunderstorms continuing across much of the region. Northerly wind gusts between 25–35 mph will accompany the system, and rain is expected to taper off by Tuesday afternoon as it pushes southeastward. Highs Tuesday will drop sharply into the upper 50s and low 60s, with overnight lows falling into the 40s.

Travelers should stay weather-aware, especially during the evening commute and overnight hours. Avoid unnecessary driving during peak storm activity and ensure flashlights and weather radios are charged.

Additional watches or warnings may be issued as storms progress. Stay tuned to local alerts as the cold front moves through.
