Lincoln, NE – A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for southeastern Nebraska, including Lincoln, as powerful storms move north at 45 mph. The storm is expected to bring damaging winds and quarter-sized hail, prompting immediate safety precautions.

According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, the warning is in effect until 5 p.m. CDT and covers Lancaster, Sarpy, Seward, Otoe, Saline, Butler, Saunders, and Cass counties. Radar indicated wind gusts up to 60 mph, which may cause damage to roofs, siding, and trees.

Residents in impacted areas, including Lincoln Airport, Gretna, and Syracuse, should seek shelter in an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Those traveling along Interstate 80 between mile markers 388 and 437 should prepare for hazardous conditions.

The storm could produce hail capable of damaging vehicles. Anyone attending outdoor events or near recreational areas like Wagon Train State Recreation Area and Pawnee State Recreation Area is urged to take cover immediately.

As the storm moves through, residents should monitor weather updates and be prepared for sudden changes in conditions. The warning may be extended if severe weather persists beyond the current advisory period.
