Hastings, NE – After a mild and sunny weekend, Hastings and surrounding areas will see significant weather changes starting Monday. A rain-snow mix and gusty winds could create hazardous conditions for residents, particularly along Highway 281.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS), Sunday will remain calm, with partly cloudy skies and highs near 55°F. However, Monday’s forecast includes a 50-75% chance of precipitation, beginning as light rain and transitioning to a rain-snow mix by evening. Snow accumulation is expected to remain light, under an inch in most locations. Winds will intensify west of Highway 281, reaching speeds of 25-40 mph by Monday afternoon.

Temperatures will drop sharply Monday evening, with lows around 23°F, which could create icy spots on roads and bridges. The NWS recommends avoiding unnecessary travel during periods of high wind and mixed precipitation. Motorists should exercise caution, particularly on rural and open stretches of Highway 281, where wind gusts could impact vehicle stability.

Looking ahead, the rest of the week will bring colder conditions. Highs will hover in the mid-30s on Tuesday, with mostly sunny skies. New Year’s Day is expected to be clear but chilly, with a high near 37°F.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates and secure outdoor items that could be blown away by strong winds. Stay informed by visiting the NWS Hastings website or tuning into local updates.
