Amarillo, TX – Residents of the Texas Panhandle can look forward to mild and sunny conditions Sunday, with highs reaching the low-to-mid 60s. This weekend’s pleasant weather provides the perfect opportunity for outdoor activities before cooler air moves in later this week.

According to the National Weather Service, Sunday’s highs will peak near 67 degrees in Amarillo under sunny skies. Winds will remain light, coming from the southwest at 5 to 10 mph. By Sunday night, temperatures will dip to a low of around 45 degrees, with wind gusts up to 20 mph.

The start of New Year’s week will bring a noticeable cool-down. Monday is expected to reach a high of 49 degrees, with winds shifting northwest and gusting up to 30 mph. Overnight temperatures will drop to near freezing, with lows around 29 degrees.

Looking ahead to New Year’s Day, the region will see highs around 48 degrees under partly sunny skies. Overnight temperatures will fall to the mid-20s, so residents planning celebrations should prepare for chilly weather.

Travelers along major routes, including Interstate 40 and US-287, should take note of wind patterns that could make driving conditions difficult at times, particularly on Monday.

Be sure to enjoy this weekend’s mild weather, but prepare for a cold and breezy start to the week. Keep an eye on updated forecasts and dress appropriately for the cooler temperatures expected during New Year’s celebrations.
