Grand Island, NE – lA winter weather advisory is in effect for portions of central Nebraska and north-central Kansas from 3 p.m. Tuesday until 3 a.m. Wednesday, with high winds and light snowfall creating hazardous conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, wind gusts could reach 55 to 65 mph, leading to near-blizzard conditions in some areas. While snowfall is expected to remain light—generally around 1 inch—roads may become slick, especially during the Tuesday evening commute.
The advisory covers areas including Grand Island, Hastings, Kearney, and Lexington in Nebraska, as well as Phillipsburg and Smith Center in Kansas. Winds will be strongest out of the north-northwest, potentially reducing visibility in heavier snow bands.
Although true whiteout conditions are not expected to last long, any increase in snowfall amounts could lead to a Blizzard Warning. Snowfall is expected to taper off between 9 p.m. and midnight.
Travelers are urged to slow down and use caution, as high winds could create dangerous driving conditions. For updated road conditions, dial 511 in your state.
