Hastings, Nebraska – Thunderstorms may rumble through central Nebraska by late Wednesday, bringing wind gusts near 30 mph and spotty downpours to Hastings and surrounding communities.

According to the National Weather Service, a 30% chance of showers begins Wednesday morning, with thunderstorms possible after 4 p.m. East southeast winds will increase ahead of the storms, shifting northwest after sunset. Rain totals are expected to remain light, but isolated thunderstorm cells could briefly disrupt travel—especially along US-6 and area county roads.

Wednesday night carries a 40% chance of additional showers and storms. Residents should remain weather-aware into early Thursday, as any late evening activity could carry lightning or gusty winds. Winds will calm slightly Thursday, and skies clear by afternoon, giving way to partly sunny conditions and highs near 70°F.

Friday and the weekend offer a brief spring reprieve. Hastings will see abundant sunshine Friday and Saturday, with highs in the low 70s and overnight lows in the mid-40s to mid-50s. Breezy south winds return Sunday, and so do rain chances, with a 30% shot at thunderstorms developing in the afternoon and continuing into Sunday night.

Looking ahead, Monday may be stormy again, with a 50% chance of thunderstorms and highs near 76°F.
