Omaha, NE – Nebraska is bracing for its first significant frost of the season, with temperatures expected to drop into the 20s and 30s overnight starting Sunday. The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory, urging residents to protect sensitive plants from the freeze. The advisory covers much of eastern Nebraska, including areas along the I-80 corridor, with the coldest temperatures expected Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings.

According to the National Weather Service, the frost potential is greater than 80%, making it crucial for homeowners to take precautions. Affected cities include Omaha, Lincoln, and Norfolk, where temperatures are forecast to drop to as low as 29°F overnight. Those living in areas surrounding these cities should be particularly mindful of exposed vegetation. Cover plants with blankets or bring them indoors to prevent frost damage.

The frost advisory is active from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Monday. Forecasters predict a mostly clear sky with temperatures plummeting to 38°F tonight before falling even further Monday night. Residents should also prepare for breezy conditions later in the week as warmer weather returns by Thursday, pushing daytime highs back into the 70s.

For drivers on I-80, Monday and Tuesday morning commutes could include some frosty roads, particularly in low-lying areas. Motorists are advised to exercise caution and watch for icy patches in the early hours. While no snowfall is expected, these conditions could still create hazards, especially on untreated roads.

Looking ahead, warmer weather is forecast to return by midweek. Highs will reach 63°F by Wednesday, and sunny, breezy conditions will follow, providing a break from the cold by Thursday.

• Sunday: High of 63°F, mostly sunny, north winds 9-15 mph.
