Maryland residents should prepare for a significant change in weather as a cold front pushes through the region starting tonight. With highs today reaching the upper 70s to low 80s, conditions will soon turn as showers and possible thunderstorms sweep in from the west. Rain will hit mostly in the evening, affecting travel on major highways such as I-70 and I-270.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Baltimore, an upper-level disturbance will also trigger upslope rain and potential snow showers in higher elevations on Monday. Cooler temperatures will arrive behind the front, with daytime highs struggling to exceed 50°F in some areas by Tuesday. Overnight temperatures will plummet into the 30s, creating a stark contrast to today’s warmth.

The NWS advises residents to stay weather-aware, especially if traveling in the western and mountainous parts of Maryland, as some snow could accompany the rain by Tuesday. Breezy conditions and colder air will persist through midweek, with Tuesday’s highs only in the low 60s across lower elevations.

The cold front is expected to clear out by Wednesday, leaving behind drier but chilly conditions. Those in the Shenandoah Valley and nearby regions should be particularly mindful of possible rain spillover on Tuesday, as it may disrupt visibility on the roads. For the rest of the week, sunny but cold days are expected, making early-morning frost a possibility.
