Hastings, NE – Snowfall and dangerously low wind chills are affecting Nebraska, prompting Winter Weather Advisories and Extreme Cold Warnings across the state. Roads are snow-packed, and wind chills could reach as low as -30°F through midweek.

According to the Nebraska Department of Transportation, snow continues to fall statewide, creating hazardous travel conditions. Officials urge drivers to check 511.nebraska.gov for updates, increase following distances, and avoid crowding snowplows. The National Weather Service in Hastings has issued advisories through at least 6 p.m. Tuesday, with an Extreme Cold Warning in effect from midnight Tuesday until noon Thursday.

Snowfall totals are expected to range from 3 to 5 inches, with up to 6 inches in northern Kansas. Winds will reach up to 20 mph, further reducing visibility. Prolonged subzero temperatures could lead to frostbite in as little as 10 minutes and increase the risk of frozen pipes.

Officials advise staying indoors when possible and dressing in layers if venturing outside. Warmer temperatures are expected by the weekend, with highs returning to the 40s and 50s by Sunday.
