Cheyenne, Wyoming – Drivers and residents across southeastern Wyoming, the Nebraska Panhandle, and northeast Colorado face a heightened risk of tornadoes, large hail, and severe thunderstorms until 10 p.m. MDT Friday, August 1, as a Tornado Watch blankets the region. Gusty winds and sudden downpours could disrupt travel and threaten infrastructure late into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center, counties under watch include Goshen, Laramie, and Platte in Wyoming; Scotts Bluff, Cheyenne, Banner, Morrill, and Kimball in Nebraska; and Weld, Logan, Morgan, Phillips, Sedgwick, and Washington in Colorado. The tornado watch outlines the potential for isolated tornadoes, scattered hail up to the size of apples, and wind gusts topping 70 mph. Localized flash flooding may develop quickly as storms intensify.

In Cheyenne and Wheatland, residents should secure loose outdoor items and charge electronic devices before storms arrive. Torrington and Scottsbluff drivers are urged to avoid non-essential travel after sunset, with flooding possible on low-lying roads. Fort Morgan and Sterling, Colorado, could see power outages and downed branches as storms sweep through.

Emergency management officials advise staying updated via NOAA Weather Radio and local alerts. Move to safe shelter at the first sign of warnings, and prepare for possible overnight impacts.

Storm threats remain in effect until 10 p.m., with further watches possible if conditions persist. More updates will follow as the situation develops.
