Omaha, NE – Residents are advised to prepare for an intense heat wave this weekend. According to the US National Weather Service Omaha/Valley, an Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for Sunday and Monday, with heat indices expected to peak near 110°F in southeast Nebraska and Iowa.

The forecast predicts temperatures ranging from 95°F to over 100°F, combined with high humidity levels, making it feel as hot as 110°F. Sunday and Monday are anticipated to be the hottest days, with cities such as Lincoln and Omaha facing some of the highest heat indices. The National Weather Service warns that these conditions can be dangerous, especially for vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activities, and seek air-conditioned environments. The heat wave follows a period of relatively mild weather, with temperatures on Friday expected to reach 90°F, followed by 95°F on Saturday. Tuesday is predicted to bring some relief with a high of 84°F, and temperatures are expected to remain in the low 80s for the rest of the week.
