Cheyenne, WY – A powerful winter storm continues to impact Wyoming and western Nebraska, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions through Friday night. Multiple Winter Storm Warnings remain in effect for affected areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, snow accumulations range from 1 to 10 inches, with the heaviest snowfall expected in the Sierra Madre Range, where up to 10 additional inches are forecast. Winds gusting as high as 45 mph will cause widespread blowing snow, significantly reducing visibility and making travel dangerous.
Areas including the Ferris, Seminoe, and Shirley Mountains, as well as the Shirley Basin, will see an additional 1 to 2 inches of snow through 8 a.m. Friday. Similarly, Central Laramie Range, Southwest Platte County, and East Platte County will experience similar conditions through the morning hours.
In Nebraska, Box Butte County, Dawes County, and Northern Sioux County will remain under Winter Storm Warnings until 11 a.m., with up to 3 inches of additional snow expected.
Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Those who must drive should carry an emergency kit, including food, water, and a flashlight. Motorists can check road conditions by dialing 511.
Blowing snow and icy roads will persist into the evening, making Friday’s commutes particularly treacherous. The public is advised to stay updated on forecast changes and road conditions throughout the day.
