Omaha, NE – A powerful weather system prompted the National Weather Service to issue a severe thunderstorm watch across southeast Nebraska, far southwest Iowa, northeast Kansas, and far northwest Missouri through 3 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, the watch—issued Tuesday evening—warns of scattered large hail, potentially up to 2.5 inches in diameter, damaging wind gusts up to 80 mph, and the possibility of a tornado or two. Thunderstorms are expected to intensify as a cold front moves through the area overnight.
Residents are urged to remain alert, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and take shelter if severe weather approaches.
