Montpelier, VT – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for much of central, northeast, and northwest Vermont, as mixed precipitation is expected to disrupt travel and daily life from Wednesday night through Thursday morning. The advisory, effective from 8 PM Wednesday to 11 AM Thursday, warns of up to two inches of snow, sleet, and up to a tenth of an inch of ice accumulation, with winds gusting 25 to 35 mph.
According to the National Weather Service, the mixed precipitation will begin as snow and transition to sleet and freezing rain overnight, potentially causing hazardous travel conditions for the Thursday morning commute. Residents are advised to use caution when traveling, particularly on icy roads, and anticipate possible isolated power outages due to the ice accumulation.
Road conditions can be monitored through Vermont’s New England 511 service. As the storm moves through, officials are reminding the public to slow down, maintain a safe distance on the roads, and stay updated on any changes to the weather alerts.
