Washington, D.C. – Trump’s approval rating has dropped to its lowest point since taking office, according to new polls showing growing frustration over the nation’s record-breaking government shutdown.

According to a YouGov/Economist survey conducted between Oct. 31 and Nov. 3, just 39% of Americans approve of Trump’s performance, while 57% disapprove. Even among those who supported him in the 2024 presidential election, approval has slipped four points since August — from a +74 to +70 rating among his voters.

The dip comes as the government shutdown extends into its second month, leaving federal workers without pay and disrupting essential programs. Nearly 42 million Americans relying on Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits face delays after the Supreme Court paused efforts to restore funding.

On Friday, the USDA reversed an earlier plan to issue full benefits for November, ordering states to roll back distributions. Food banks across the country report surging demand as families struggle to cover groceries and rent.

The shutdown’s reach has expanded into air travel, with the Federal Aviation Administration cutting flight capacity at 40 airports starting Friday to ease pressure on unpaid controllers. Thousands of flights have since been delayed or canceled nationwide.

A separate Emerson College poll found Trump’s approval at 41%, with nearly half of respondents expressing disapproval — a reversal from his early post-inauguration numbers.

Despite the mounting criticism, Trump dismissed the results as “fake polls” on Truth Social, saying, “In the Fair Polls, I have the Best Numbers I have ever had.”
