Nashville, Tennessee – Large hail and damaging winds could slam Middle Tennessee on Tuesday afternoon as another round of strong thunderstorms targets the region, with the greatest threat focused on northern counties including Clarksville, Gallatin and Portland.

According to the US National Weather Service in Nashville, a Level 2 “Slight” risk has been issued for much of northern Middle Tennessee from Tuesday afternoon into the evening. Residents from Hopkinsville, Kentucky, down through Clarksville and into the Nashville metro should prepare for rapidly changing conditions and the potential for storms to turn severe, producing hail over one inch in diameter and wind gusts over 60 mph.

Key roads and highways including I-24, I-65, and U.S. 31W could see hazardous travel during the evening commute. Local emergency officials urge everyone to have multiple ways to receive weather warnings and to move vehicles to shelter where possible. Power outages and downed trees are possible, especially in areas north of Nashville.

This is the latest in a series of spring severe weather days for Tennessee, echoing last week’s storms. More updates and warnings are possible through Tuesday night as conditions develop. Stay weather aware and keep alerts enabled until the threat passes.
